Sustainability & Circularity

Sustainability is not an add-on – it is a design principle. DIC helps organisations embed life cycle thinking and circular economy principles into their products, processes, and infrastructure from the earliest stages of development. Our work spans environmental, economic, and social dimensions, providing a genuinely holistic view of sustainability performance.

We apply EU and internationally recognised frameworks, including Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) under the EU Green Deal, Well-to-Wake lifecycle assessment for maritime and transport sectors, and the Driver-Pressure-State-Impact-Response (DPSIR) framework for systemic environmental analysis.

Safe Sustainable by Design (SSbD)

DIC applies the European SSbD framework to evaluate new products and materials across their full life cycle – from raw material extraction through production, use, and end-of-life. We assess safety, environmental performance, circularity, and economic viability in an integrated way, helping clients meet EU Green Deal requirements and align with emerging regulatory standards.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

We use ISO-compliant LCA methodologies and specialist software to quantify the environmental impacts of products, processes, and systems. Our assessments cover climate change, resource use, water consumption, biodiversity, and ecosystem impacts – providing clients with the evidence base to make informed design and operational decisions.

Greenhouse Gas & Emissions Modelling

From manufacturing to maritime operations, DIC develops customised GHG emissions models that link operational data to lifecycle-based metrics. This capability directly underpins our SEAWISE platform, which provides Well-to-Wake emissions monitoring for ship operators in real time.

Circular Economy Strategies

We assess and design for circularity – evaluating material efficiency, recyclability, repairability, and waste reduction across value chains. We work with clients to identify where circular interventions deliver the greatest environmental and economic value.

Environmental, Social, and Economic Impact

Sustainability assessments at DIC address all three pillars. Environmental impact analysis is complemented by social impact assessment (labour rights, community effects, health and safety) and economic analysis (cost-benefit, lifecycle costing, financial modelling of sustainability investments).
