DIC Leads Strategic Planning During the NATURE-DEMO Vienna Workshop

DigInnoCent s.r.o., coordinator of the Horizon Europe NATURE-DEMO project, led the consortium workshop held in Vienna from 18–20 February 2025, bringing together project partners to coordinate technical progress and prepare the next stages of implementation across the project’s European demonstration sites.

The workshop represented a significant milestone as the consortium moved from methodology development towards the practical deployment of nature-based solutions designed to strengthen resilience against climate-related hazards.

Coordinating Technical Development

Under DigInnoCent’s coordination, project partners reviewed progress across all major work packages and refined the technical roadmap for the months ahead.

Discussions focused on:

  • advancing the NATURE-DEMO Digital Support Platform;
  • integrating climate, environmental and socio-economic datasets into decision-support tools;
  • harmonising methodologies for risk assessment and performance evaluation;
  • coordinating implementation planning across demonstration sites;
  • strengthening collaboration between technical experts, regional authorities and stakeholders.

The workshop enabled partners to resolve technical challenges collaboratively while ensuring consistency across the project’s multidisciplinary activities.

Advancing Demonstration Site Planning

An important element of the Vienna meeting was the continued preparation of demonstration sites, where innovative nature-based solutions will be implemented and monitored under real environmental conditions.

Partners reviewed site-specific progress, discussed permitting procedures, and coordinated monitoring approaches that will enable consistent evaluation of environmental, social and economic benefits across all pilot regions.

This collaborative planning process ensures that knowledge generated in one demonstration site can be transferred effectively to others, supporting wider European replication.

Supporting Long-Term Impact

Alongside technical discussions, the workshop also addressed communication, dissemination and exploitation activities that will maximise the project’s long-term value.

As project coordinator, DigInnoCent continues to guide collaboration across the consortium, ensuring that scientific excellence is translated into practical solutions capable of supporting public authorities, infrastructure managers and communities in adapting to the impacts of climate change.

Through effective project coordination and strong international partnerships, NATURE-DEMO is steadily progressing towards delivering innovative, evidence-based nature-based solutions that can be replicated throughout Europe.
